Mastering the Art of Skin Prep: Secrets to a Flawless Base

Here is the ultimate guide to achieving the perfect base for makeup application. Now I hear you ask, what is the perfect base? The perfect is one that enables for optimal makeup application meaning that the skin is hydrated, protected and provides longevity of wear.

Step 1 - Cleanse

Before anything else, cleanse your face thoroughly (in fact, double cleanse), you need to rid your skin of any old products, sweat, oil, dead skin cells - they all need to go. Opt for a cleansing, hydrating face wash.

PRO TIP: Use a face brush to give your face a good exfoliation, remember exfoliation improves the absorption of skincare products.

Step 2 - Facial Mist

After cleansing and exfoliating, next we need to infuse the skin with as much moisture as it can take. Start off with a light spritz of a facial skin mist with ingredients like rose water, vitamin E spray, hyaluronic acid

Step 3 - Serums

After cleansing the skin we want to opt for a hydrating serum, look out for ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, urea, snail mucin and squalene. Serums are usually lightweight and penetrate the skin cells deeper than thicker products

PRO TIP - if your skin is super dry, include a few drops of an oil like vitamin E oil, rosehip seed oil for extra moisture

Step 4 -  Moisturise

At this stage, your skin will feel super soft and we will need to lock in the moisture with a good moisturiser. Ensure that you tailor your moisturiser to your skin needs i.e. dry, oily, combination

Step 5 - Primer

Primer is a key step for achieving long-lasting makeup wear and addressing skincare concerns, there are so many primers for achieving various objectives for example dryness, enlarged pores, oil control. Do not skip priming, we need to create a barrier between your skin and your makeup products!

PRO TIP: combine multiple primers to address different skin concerns i.e. using an oil control primer on an oily t-zone with a hydrating primer on the rest of the face

That’s it, you’re ready to apply your makeup
