Nourishing Honey and Oatmeal Face Mask for Sensitive Skin

So today’s face mask is homemade and super easy to make since it involves three basic ingredients that I’m sure everyone has in their kitchen cupboards! I discovered this honey oatmeal face mask on YouTube from Ms Aaliyah Jay, who praised the mask for getting rid of large pores and dead skin, remarking that is especially great for those with dry, sensitive skin and eczema.

As always, I needed to try it out before sharing it with you guys! I’ve always known that both oatmeal and honey were packed full of nutrients and also, very tasty so I was certain that it would be great for your skin.

How to use

  1. Place one tablespoon of oats into a small bowl, followed by an equal amount of water
  2. Mix to create a paste, if the mixture is too watery add more oats (similarly, if it is too dry add more water)
  3. Continue folding over the mixture until you have a paste, then squeeze a generous amount of honey and continue to mix
  4. Apply the paste onto clean, dry skin and work into areas that are especially dry and areas with large pores
  5. After 15 minutes, rinse off with warm water and moisturise as normal

I found that after this face mask my face was incredibly soft and I also rubbed this mask on my lips, which made my lips unbelievably soft (I suffer from super dry lips). Overall, this has become my go-to winter face mask for achieving supple and glowing skin!

Aside from the benefits I have mentioned, here are some further benefits:

  • Oatmeal contains avenanthramides, which is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that soothe itchy, dry and irritated skin, making it ideal for those with eczema.
  • Oatmeal is also perfect for acne-prone skin because it absorbs oil from the skin’s surface, which is why those with dry skin should use this mask for a maximum of three times a week (never consecutively).
  • Honey is a humectant, so draws moisture from its surroundings leaving skin moisturised
  • Helps to unclog pores, reducing the appearance of pores and getting rid of blackheads
  • Makes a really good lip scrub for dry lips

This mask is super versatile, try adding turmeric powder to enhance its skin brightening properties! I also recommend using this as a full-body mask and accompanying with a body brush for super soft skin all over.
